Took this pic last year down in Kerry. Just wondering where exactly do they expect you to do your business?

Last year we decided to go to The Electric Picnic festival for the first time and a great time we had at it. However, by and large, the toilet facilities were not the best by any stretch of the imagination. We stayed on the camping site at the entrance which was great and quiet and the toilet in the pic were the closest to us. Couldn’t use them after the first day as they were minging.
I know its a festival but its no reason to not have a company clean the toilets once over the weekend. These basically are a hole that you do your business into. The smell was outrageous and even if they had someone in to empty the toilets on the Saturday evening while most were inside the festival, that would have been acceptable. But it didn’t happen and by the Sunday the place was minging. Really minging.
There were other toilets around but some were pay toilets, some were small and queues huge and others inside. But these were disgusting and lord help anyone who camped near them as you could smell the shite from 400 yards.
With the festival lineup announced for ‘09 and tickets on sale lets hope a small bit more thought goes into such an essential item as you wont find food stalls running out of food or the Heineken tent running out of beer but to have rank, almost unusable, toilets at such a great event does leave a bad thought.

Ratings (marks out of 10)
Area Cleanliness: 9
Smell/Odour: 5 (No smell either way)
Running Water: 8
Hand wash/Soap: 8 (Both soaps were full but hard to press)
Hand dryer/towels: 8 (Two dryers – one over each sink)
Toilet paper: 5 (Very light paper – easily breakable when using)
State of the floor: 8
State of the toilet: 10
Toilet checklist: 0 (Didn’t see a checklist – not very visible)
Other: While its great that there are two sinks for one cubicle and two urinals, there is little space when you walk in if people are at the sinks. One almost blocks the door coming in and the other blocks the door to the cubicle. Maybe just a bit small for two sinks but great to see good facilities none the less. Bonus points: -2 (For lack of space)
Total Score: 59
Overall comments: Overall these toilets are nice and great to see well kept toilets. A bit small for two sinks but good overall. Just to note that there is a disabled toilet but didn’t get a chance to look at it.

Ratings (marks out of 10)
Area Cleanliness: 6
Smell/Odour: 5 (No smell either way)
Running Water: 4 (Not much hot water)
Hand wash/Soap: 2 (Soap dispenser nearly empty even though recently checked)
Hand dryer/towels: 7
Sanitary bin: 8
Toilet paper: 6 (Despite there being a holder paper not in it. Just dumped on top of toilet)
State of the floor: 6 (Floor was a bit dirty)
State of the toilet: 3 (Inside rim of the toilet was filthy and obviously not cleaned recently)
Toilet checklist: 7 (Checklist there and updated but obviously means little)
Other: Toilet has baby changing facilities and is well set up for a wheelchair bound person to use. Bonus points: 5 for those facilities.
Total Score: 59
Overall comments: Overall toilets are ok. Its bad form that the checklist showed the toilet is checked regularly but no care given. Why wasn’t toilet paper in the holder, why was the soap almost empty and why is the toilet so dirty despite all being checked each hour for the previous 6 hours? Dirty toilets don’t really make you want to have a food from a place or stop again unless desperate.

Other: None. Bonus points: -2 (Cramped entrance coming into toilet and cubicles are quite narrow)
Total Score: 63
Overall comments: The toilets are obviously checked regularly and are always clean whenever I’ve been there. I find the doors in quite cramped as you have to enter two doors to get in and one opens in on top of the other and so you could easily get a smack. Overall in a good usable state.
